Bij beschouwing van de Eindhovense BINNENRING, ofwel de RONDWEG, kan worden opgemerkt dat haar ‘verblijfswaarde’ zich vooral bij de 24 kruisingen manifesteert.Hier mindert de automobilist zijn snelheid met het oog op de veiligheid en om de nodige informatie voor de rit te ontvangen. Het zijn immers de kruisingen waar men zich zijn positie op de RONDWEG bewust wordt; de kruisingen fungeren als leveranciers van informatie. Men zou kunnen zeggen dat deze of gene kruising in het teken staat van een stad of een streek waar de kruisende weg naar toe gericht is. Maar zij kan natuurlijk ook naar een plek in de binnenstad verwijzen. Zo bezien kan de RONDWEG worden opgevat als een gesloten keten van diverse thema’s en informaties. Het volgende vormt een poging, met dit gegeven te werken door eerst het bestaande potentieel in kaart te brengen en dan programma’s toe te voegen om het ‘thema’ van elke kruising te versterken/verscherpen____Facing the RING of Eindhoven, bluntly called DE RONDWEG, its intrinsity becomes manifest especially at its 24 crossings. Here the driver slows down in order to receive the necessairy information for the drive and of course for safety reasons. For it is the crossings where one becomes aware of one’s position on the RONDWEG; in fact, the crossings are the information-providers of the RONDWEG. One could say that for instance this or that crossing bears the theme of a city or a region for which the crossing road is heading. But it could also refer to a certain inner part of eindhoven. Considered like this, the RONDWEG could be conceived as being a chain/cirquit of various themes and informations. The following tries to explore this given fact by first mapping the existing potential and secondly suggesting an additional program to strengthen/exacerbate the ‘theme’ of each crossing. GLAZEN VOLUMES. Uitgangspunt is de inzet van glazen volumes, varierend van informatieportalen boven de RONDWEG tot complexere gebouwen, waar lokaal-gebonden programma’s en interlokaal-gebonden ‘mondiale’ programma’s-van-onderweg-zijn bij elkaar komen. Deze volumes zweven boven de RONDWEG. De identiteit/uitstraling van het glazen volume wordt dan bepaald door voorwerpen die zich aan de binnenzijde van de glazen huid bevinden. Deze voorwerpen zijn vaak grote video-schermen, die de RONDWEG-gebruiker informeren over actuele of statische zaken, die op één of andere manier met het thema van de kruising te maken hebben — òf over grote RONDWEG-evenementen____GLASS VOLUMES. Starting point is the insertion of glass volumes. They vary from information-gates above the RONDWEG to more complex buildings where locally-oriented programs meet transit-oriented programs that are more or less ‘global’. They are suspended above the RONDWEG. The identity/enamanation of the glass volume will then be determined by the artefacts positioned at the inside surface of the glass skin.These artefacts could be video screens, providing information for the RONDWEG-user about current or static crossing-related themes — or about big events on the RONDWEG. REGIO-PROMOTIE. de grote video-schermen kunnen bijvoorbeeld typisch regio-eigen foto’s/video’s tonen van leden van foto/videoclubs uit de betrokken regio waarnaar de kruising ‘verwijst’ en waarmee ze verbonden is. Een ketting van evenementen op de RONDWEG kan gevormd en bepaald worden door de opeenvolgende thema’s van de kruisingen. De grote kruisingen zijn voorzien van reis-/toeristendiensten, touringcar- transferia voor excursies of reizen, die vooral betrekking hebben op de regio’s/bestemmingen die aan de kruising gerelateerd zijn____REGION-PROMOTION. For instance, the screens could show hotographs/homevideos taken by members of the amature-photo-clubs-league from those regions connected to the crossing-road, showing typically aspects of these regions. A chain of events on the RONDWEG could be configurated by the crossing’s themes... The bigger crossings are provided with tourist- information/travel-agencies, touringcar-terminals for excursions or traveling, especially focussed on the regions related to these crossings. Op deze wijze kan de nieuwe RONDWEG opgevat worden als een ringvormig projectie-scherm waarop zowel aspecten van Eindhoven zelf als van de (wijde) omgeving geprojecteerd worden____In this sense, the new RONDWEG acts out as a circular projection-screen, on which aspects of inner Eindhoven as well as its (wide) environment become projected...
